Can One Be Infected Through Contact With Ring-worms On Cat?
Hi.. We got a kitten about a week and half ago from Petsmart.. Well, they didn't tell us that the kitten had ringworm. Now My other cat has it on his ear. I am giving them shampoo/liquid cleansing/and some type of liquid from (vet). Can I take some type of medication as a precautionary measure, so my husband or myself don't get it??? Our Son graduates on 18th of June and our granddaughter is having hernia surgery on the 19th? Help..
Hello, I had gone through your query and understand your concern.
Short answer: Yes, it can spread.
Detailed answer:
Ringworm infection can spread from an infected cat when it is touched. It's better to get your cat treated for the same.
To prevent the spread, wash your hand thoroughly after touching your cat. There is no need to take medication without any infection. Watch out for any itching patch on skin, discharge then it's better to consult a doctor.
Regarding hernia operation: Prognosis after hernia operation is very good. There is nothing to worry. Your grand daughter will be alright in few days after surgery.
If you have any other queries, feel free to contact me. I'll be happy to help.
Regards Dr. Prathap Kumar
