Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
HI there. I m wondering what the best oral contraceptive would be for someone with PCOS. They haven t tolerated the higher dose oestrogen pills due to weight gain/breast tenderness. Which of the lower dose pills would you recommend (Yaz and Mercilon available) and what are the advantages/disadvantages of just using a progesterone-only pill??
For patients with PCOS who cannot tolerate estrogen pills, using progesterone only pill is as effective. The most common side effect associated with the use of the mini pill is irregular menstrual bleeding. This gets usually better after three months of taking the pill.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ahmad Nazzal, General & Family Physician
