Can Ovarian Cysts Cause Back Pain After Hysterectomy?

I am 56, post menopausal via hysterectomy at 40. One ovary on the left side which hasn t been working for over 10 years. But I believe that I may have an ovarian cyst, based on pain and location. It eases up for a couple of days then comes back on. Low appetite, back pain. But bowels and urination okay, no fever or vomiting. How can an ovary not working so long develop a cyst?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Ovaries can develop cysts but they are generally asymptomatic unless they are very big or get complicated.
In your case, I would recommend you to have a visit with your doctor to confirm the cause of your abdominal pain. He may also require a transvaginal ultrasound and an abdominal ultrasound, depending on the findings during the physical exam.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
