Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Overeating And Stress Cause Elevated A1C Levels?
My total cholesterol is 126 (bottom end of reference range is 125); I don t ever remember it being above 130. I am a 45 year old male. My HDL is 47 for a ratio of 2.7. My A1C is 6.3 which is considered prediabetic since I have never had it (family history of type II in father). My questions are 1) what are the negative effects of cholesterol being too low and 2) could my elevated A1C be due to overeating (unheathily, many refined carbs) over the past 3-4 months due to stress, keeping me at constant postprandial elevation rather than any impending insulin resistance?
Thank youfor the question. You cholesterol is in normal range. Low values may be due to malnutrition, malabsoption syndrom or liver or thyroid conditions.I would advise you to take adequate saturated and unsaturated fats , butter, cheese, oils etc. If your level goes still down , then get liver, thyroid, stool examination and tests for steatorrhea (loss of fat in stool) Borderline sugar levels have nothing to worry. increase calorie burning with walking, exercise etc. get your lipid profile test after a month of full fats diet for re-evaluation
