Can Pacemaker Implantation Be Done In A 95 Year Old Diabetic?
My father is 95 years old. He has demintia and is type 2 diabetic. His dr. has strongly suggested he put a pace maker in. I don t have all the details as my brother lives in same state and I m in a different state. I was looking into comments of putting a pace maker into a 95 year old. He has had bladder cancer many years ago. He was in hospital for 30 days maybe 10 years ago. It was from complications from surgery to one of his heart valves. They all just crumbled and ended up in surgery for many many hours and ICU for 30 days. No one thought he would make it but he did. They reconstructed everything going to the heart. ?? I know I m so not using the right wording. Anyway my question is should he have the pace maker put in? I m just scared this simple procedure may turn into the same as last one. I am the medical authority and am just confused as to what to do? Thank you Pam
The pacemaker implantation is definitely a better step for any rightly selected patient and also the type of pace maker, depends on the type of disorder, heart is having. Definitely, pace maker has very low side effects. It is always useful in improving the symptoms, quality of life and also prolonging survival in many cases. Hence, I suggest, you should definitely go for implantation of a pace maker in your father, if advised by your doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
