As you mentioned that your husband Passed out episode which was managed with defibrillation.It is likely that he might have brain damage during the time period of arrest.such damage is called Anoxic brain damage.Once the heart activity is restored brain may take some time to recover from this insult.But some deficit may persist life long.It depends on duration of lack of blood supply and arrested which was faced by brain.
