Can Painkillers Like Be Given For Muscle Pain In An Elderly?
Hi, My father (70 years old, diabetes and heart patient) is recovering from the c3/c4 cervical spine injury. Lately dr's stopped his pregabalin medicine of probable side effects (swealling on his face, neck and in limbs). Today is his 3rd day of medicine withdrawl phase. He is in great pain and have muscle spasticity. He took levocitrizine to overcome swealling (subside allergic reaction). My question is can we give him painkillers like voveran to reduce his pain? Thanks. Barkha
Hi Barkha, Yes, you can give painkillers like voveron to reduce the pain. Stick to the dosage and avoid giving on a empty stomach. Alternatively local cream or spray over the spine (if there are no ulcers) like capsacin or NSAID based creams can also be used. Heat therapy can also be done. Local application of heat agents can improve circulation and healing also. Avoid opiod pain killers. Any of the NSAID group can be used to reduce pain specifically selective cox-2 inhibitors. If you have any further queries, happy to help again.
