Can Placement Of Nexplanon Cause Prolonged Bleeding?

I got the birth control Nexplanon inserted last month on the 26th and I know one of the side effects are irregular menstrual cycles but, I was wondering if it causes you to be on your period for longer than a week? I ve been on my period for 11 days now and I have a really bad pain under my left rib cage. I m not sure if the rib cage pain is due to the birth control but curious to know if this is something I should call my doctor about.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.
Thank you for contacting HCM.

I have gone through your question and I understand your concern. Although contraceptives such as nezaplanon have the side effect of causing irregular menstrual cycle, abdominal discomfort etc, I would recommend you consult your local gynecologist for detailed clinical evaluation and further management accordingly. Also if these side effects are bothersome for you even if everything appears to be normal you can opt for an alternate method of contraception for future.

I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns.
Wishing you good health.
