Can Procardia Cause H.E.L.L.P Syndrome?

Could taking Procardia cause H.E.L.L.P syndrome? I am an RN and had a mother 33 3/7 pregnant with twins. Small irritability contractions. Gave Procardia 20mg... 20 minutes later 10mg and 20 minutes after that 10mg. She was thin fit and BP was 103/65 110/68 ish before Procardia. After it remained normal actually even better 113/75 et. 1 hour later she came back throwing up, holding her belly, and was transferred to higher level of care. Her Platelets were 60 then down to 10. NO predisposing problems before I gave that Procardia. What do you think?

Procardia (Nifedipine) causing HELLP syndrome is a very unlikely phenomenon. There are no reports of such cases in medical literature.
There are no warnings for nifedipine that it may cause HELLP syndrome. So, I would suggest you to stop thinking about nifedipine as the sole precipitating agent. There are many reasons to develop HELLP syndrome including some genetic predisposition.
Hope this helps. Thanks.
