Hi,I am Dr. Joan F. Tryzelaar (Cardiac Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Right Axis Deviation Be Normal? My EKGs Are Abnormal
Can right axis deviation be normal?
An ekg finding of RAD has me worried and I dont know if its dangerous or not.
I have slight MVP, and was always told that my EKGs are abnormal, but normal for me.
But this new cardiologist says no.
Im so lost.
Right axis deviation is seen on the ECG when more electrical forces are moving to the right than normal. This is usually due to hypertrophy of the right ventricle (RVH). Causes of right axis deviation include COPD, pulmonary emboli, valvular disease, septal defects, and pulmonary hypertension.
For your peace of mind you should have your doctor evaluate you for these conditions that can cause the deviation. It depends on the extent of the actual deviation to know if its caused by something serious, or by your mild MVP and the ekg will show the doctor the amount of deviation. I would get a second opinion. It would also be good if you looked up the doctor to see if they are board certified, and have any disciplinary actions in the past before hand, the link below will take you the webpage where you can research them.
