Can Rise In Bilirubin Level Shown On Blood Test Be Related To Yellowness In Eyes?
Hi my sons eyes appeared yellow last week, so he went in fasting for a blood test which showed 3.9 Bilirubin level and we repeated the test non fasting 2 days later and it showed 3.3. He has no other symptoms, What is wrong with him. Doctor is not calling us back
As evident from the reports of Bilirubin test, the levels are above normal range. This indicates an Acute hepatitis (infection/ inflammation of the liver tissue) most probably due to Viral etiology. The increased level of serum bilirubin is indicative of jaundice, which is responsible for the yellowish discolouration of the eyes.
Kindly consult a Gastroenterologist & start treatment immediately to prevent any further complication. Certain investigations like Ultrasound scan of abdomen, serum HbsAg & anti HCV will be helpful to detect the underlying causative agent.
There is no need to worry, he will be fine. Wishing your son a good health. Take care.
