Can Root Canal Cause Recurring Sinus Infection?

I have been having recurring sinus infections (diagnosed at quick care clinics for swelling in sinuses with facial pain, pressure, numbness and tingling). At the dentist today they took an xray of a tooth and noticed an issue with a prior root canal that was preformed years ago. they indidcated that it appears as though perhaps a file was left in that area and seems to be into the sinus cavity approximately 5-6 cm. I have a consult set up for next week to evaluate for redo of root canal, but could that be the cause of my recent (over the past year or so) sinus infections and nearly daily headaches? Are there additional health risks I should be concerned about?

Can understand your concern..

As per your complain the chance of getting a sinus infection due to an infected tooth which has its root into the sinus cavity..

Any infection reaching beyond the root tips from the infected tooth cause infection and pus formation below the root tips and if the root apex lies within the sinus cavity it will definitely cause infection in the sinus with the apparent symptoms of sinusitis.

If you have a file breakage into the canal known as INSTRUMENT SEPARATION and if it is present within the sinus it acts as a potent source of infection.

In case if the file can be retrieved from the canal then only there are possible chances that the re-doing of the root canal treatment will be a successful procedure.

If treated on time there will not be any more health risks and you should get treated immediately.
