Can Severely Painful Sore Ulceration In The Mouth Be Shingles?
I have had Shingles about 8 years ago on the face started with a spot on the eyebrow spreading to right eye swelling so much could not see out of eye. Then 4 years ago went through stressful time had Lichen Planus of the mouth together with major ulceration of mouth this lasted 18 months then suddenly cleared up .Two months ago I had bladder prolasp repair done and hysterectomy 3 weeks later I get my bad mouth back again but this time just servere ulceration it is very painful and sore . Do you think it could be shingles ? can you get shingles in the mouth ?
As per your query severe ulceration in mouth could be shingles or recurrent apthous stomatitis. Yes shingles can occur in mouth which is known as oral shingles which occurs because of herpes virus infection.
Herpes zoster virus stay in body in inactive form after first attack of shingles. Whenever it find conditions suitable like poor immunity of body, underlying disease this virus get activated and cause disease known as oral shingles due to which painful blisters and ulcers occur in mouth.
I would suggest you to avoid spicy, sharp and citrus food in diet as it will exaggerate your condition. Maintain oral hygiene with antimicrobial mouth wash. Antiviral medications such as acyclovir, famicyclovir very effective. If symptoms are very severe these antiviral medications can be take intravenously. Apply Petroleum jelly/ Desi ghee on these ulcers. Drink lot of water.
If your symptoms keeps on persisting even after 1 week visit dermatologist for this. Hope your concern has been resolved.
