Hi there Dr. Rynne. I am a 47-year-old male who was recently diagnosed with a mildly elevated PSA level. I went to the doctor, he ordered a PSA blood test, and it showed mild elevation. He put me on Cipro for about a month and the results were slight improvement. But he still is referring me to a urologist. But here s the thing - I hadn t clarified this for my doctor and he sounds more like an encyclopedia than a friend - I m single and don t have sex, but I do masturbate frequently (about 1x a day or 1x every other day) which from my research also can raise PSA levels. I m pretty sure that when I took my blood tests, as frequently as I masturbate, I probably did it the same day or a day away from the blood test, and this has been for quite some time. I m just wondering if my PSA was elevated by my own sexual activity and not by infection or other. By the way, I masturbated throughout my Cipro regimen as well, so wondering if it was partly the culprit to why my PSA level showed only slight improvement.
