Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had shingles in my my right nostril after having an allergy attack and strep. Now I have vertigo and loss of hearing in my right ear. I had a CT and MRI which came back good (no stroke). It has been a week now. Is it possible that the shingles could have caused the vertigo and loss of hearing?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have vertigo and loss of hearing . Well sometimes infection occurs due to reasons like meniere's disease , local or generalized alteration in blood pressure , inner ear infection.Hearing loss can also occur due to age related causes and vertigo can also occur due to simple reasons like low blood sugar level .
You should not touch or prick ear with any sharp instrument. You should maintain cleanliness of area. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist again for proper diagnosis. Doctor will examine with otoscope , order CT scan, hearing loss tests and MRI. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics at least for 10 days along with anti inflammatory medications.
Doctor may prescribe hearing aid. Doctor may also consider surgery if there is any defect . Supplement like ginkgo biloba will be very helpful in such cases .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
