Can Sleep Apnea And Anemia Be Related?

Have mild sleep apnea......been traveling for past several months w/out CPAP machine....sleep seemed to be fine.....recent blood test show that as a 63 male, I m anemic(hemo 8.7 ,hema29.9, MCV65,MCH18.8 ,MCHC29.1, RDW18.5,Ferritin,serum 4ng/ml...currently taking iron pills 325mg twice/day.....is there a relationship between sleep apnea and anemia? Am I on right med protocol?

Hi, Sleep apnea is entirely a problem of brian's control over sleep and breathing. Your blood hemoglobin level is not related to sleep apnea anyway. Obesity and hypertension only can exacerbate the sleep apnea. your blood picture shows evidence of iron deficiency anemia. Iron supplementation is mandatory, but in addition better to take folic acid and methylcobalamine after consulting your family doctor. So you no need to worry about your anemia.
