Can Spacers On Back Teeth Causing Severe Pain Be Taken Out?

I have these metal things I believed they're called "spacers" correct me if I'm wrong, on my 2 back teeth at the bottom with my braces. I've been having them in for a year now and they hurt painfully. Can I request to get them taken out? Because I've heard you're only supposed to have them for 2 weeks.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain spacers are rubber or metal things that are placed in between the molar teeth and are supposed to create gap between the molar teeth so that bands can be placed over the molar..
You are correct that they are placed for only one to two weeks..

In case if you already have braces placed then it is possible that you are talking about bands and not spacers in case if they are placed over the molar and not in between the two molars..

You should consult an Orthodontist and get evaluated and in case if they are spacers then it should be removed while bands are needed till the braces are placed..
At times if the band gets broken or loose it may hurt by impinging over the gums so repairing or replacing can help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
