Can Standard Dose Of Nyquil Be Taken 4 Hours After Intake Of Sudeafed And Amox Clav For Sinus Infection?
I just took 12hr Sudafed. I have a sinus infection and cough, and am taking 12hr sudafed (2x/day) and Amox-Clav 875 mg (2x/day). In about 4 hrs, is it safe for me to take a standard adult dose of NyQuil (650mg acetaminophen, 30mg Dextromethorphan HBr, and 12.5mg Doxylamine succinate)? I need help sleeping and need cough suppressant or it's hard for me to sleep!
Thanks for the query. I understand your issue. Unfortunately sudafed contains pseudoephedrine which helps relieve congestion but causes weakness, drowsiness. Nyquil also contains dextromethorphan as well as doxylamine, both cause sedation. So it is not advisable to take a full dose of nyquil so early as it may result is excess sedation. It is preferable to take it after 8 hours.
Try some warm saline gargles or some bronchodilator like syrup terbutaline every 8hrs to control cough. Hope I was able to help you. Thanks for using Health Care Magic. I would be happy to answer any further queries. Have a nice day. Dr. Madhuri Bagde Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist
