Can Steroid Injections Be Taken For Knee Pain?

Hello. I'm a 34 years old man. Usually healthy.
I have a problem with my right knee: when I sit on my knees I feel pain at the head of the Fibula bone. Pain is gradual. The longer I sit the greater the pain.

5 month ago I had he same pain.
A X-ray and an ultrasound imaging I undergone were all OK. My doctor didn't find anything.
After 2 weeks of taking Etodolac pills (which partly helped) The doctor gave me a DIPROSPAN Injection to the knee - which finally helped me.

3 months later I had a different problem with my shoulder, so I asked the doctor for another Diprospan injection, which he gave me.

Now, the knee pain came back again but the doctor doesn't want to give me Diprospan again. He says "you're 34 years old, and I'm not willing to give repeated teroid injections in your age"

Questions:
1. How danger could really be a third steroid injection, in the above specified time intervals, for a 34 years old man - in terms of side effects or other risks?
2. Is there any substitute to this Diprospan injection I can ask my doctor for, without steroids or with a different action?
