How To Confirm A Shoulder Impingement?

Gentlemen, I am a 41 y/o male. I started college in August, and shortly after, I started getting pains in my right shoulder that ran down to my elbow. A couple of weeks later I had gone to my GP at the VA medical center and was told I had Bursitis and a touch of tendonitis. I was prescribed Naproxen and some exercises. Naproxen did not help, and the exercises increased the pain. The meds were switched to Etodolac which did not help either. The pain wakes me up at night, it increases with writing and doing computer work at college, it increases when moving my arm, it hurts while driving, it is painful to the touch from the shoulder down to the elbow. Yesterday, I had an MRI on my shoulder, and am being referred to orthopedic on Tuesday. I had to go to the emergency room for the pain several weeks ago, and was prescribed Vicodin, but that failed to help me as well. Just a few days before I had to go to the E.R., I had reached across body with that arm accidentally and I heard something snap, sounding like breaking a twig or something similar. And now I wake up at night almost screaming because of the pain. But when I went to the E.R. I was told that they believed I had either torn shoulder cuff or shoulder impingement. Any ideas on what I may be in store for?

Hello,

Ligament or tendon related problem will be the most possible cause. An MRI will be helpful to detect the problem. Surgical correction may be required in severe cases.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
