Can Stress Cause Delayed Menstruation?

My menstrual cycle has been delayed and I was wondering if it is due to my sudden intake in milk. I drink about 2-3 250 ml cartons of milk daily and I am a vegetarian. I do not take any medications except biotin and am not sexually active. The day my menstrual cycle was due I noticed spotting but that was it and my menstrual cycle has not come. What could be the cause? Could it be stress related if not my diet?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
A menstrual cycle can be as short as 22 days or as long as 36 days. It can vary from month to month. Blood flow also varies from month to month. It is not constant.
Yes, any type of mental and physical stress can delay your period. Food does not affect period. You can take any diet by your choice.
Advice
1.     Wait and watch for few days
2.     Avoid stress
3.     Avoid smoking and alcohol
4.     Do meditation and yoga
5.     Take less salt before period
6.     Drink 4 – 5 liters of water daily
7.     Sleep at least 8 hours in a day
8.     Investigation – hemoglobin percentage
If your hemoglobin is below normal then take an over the counter iron tablet and folic acid.
If you have irregularly irregular period every month despite above measures then consult an obstetrician for diagnosis of cause of irregular period.
I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question
