Can Stress Cause Pancreatitis?

I have a 21 year old daughter who was just put on Creon. She resently moved to Texas, and I am in California( not liking that). She does not drink, nor smoke. I am wondering if extreme stress could cause pancreatitis. She has been under a Dr. s care for about 3 years for stomach pain, thyroid issues(with medicine) and lethargy. Is there anything other than family history (and stress) that could cause all her ailments? Thank You for your time. Debbie Briggs, RDH CA

Hello!
First you should know that conditions that can lead to pancreatitis include, alcoholism, gallstones, abdominal surgery, certain medications, smoking, cystic fybrosis, family history of pancreatitis, hypercalcemia (hyperparathyroidism),high triglyceride levels and infection. Some studies show that stress can be a contributing factor to pancreatitis but you should exclude first the other above mentioned factors. Related your history data (I think you should exclude) the most possible cause is medication that your daughter is taking. So you need to talk with a doctor and to find which medication cause the pancreatitis.
I hope my answer help you.
