Can Surgery Cause Facial Nerve Damage Or Paralysis?

I am 61 yr old female diagnosed with parrtoid benign tumor....i was told by surgeon when he drained it was a cyst probably wouldn't have do anything ..so he did fine needle aspiration when i went back he recommended surgery i am terrified facial nerve damge paralysis i read so much not good what else can i do ? thank you
