Can The Autoimmune Process Of Thyroid Failure Cause Lymph Nodes To Enlarge ?

I have hashimotos hypothyroid disease. Yesterday, I had an ultrasound done of the gland and it was fine, however, there was a lymph node under the thyroid in the hollow of the neck that showed up as enlarged on the scan. She said it looked benign. Can the autoimmune process of thyroid failure cause lymph nodes to enlarge as a response to the body's attack on the gland? Can it turn cancerous?

In an autoimune disease (like Hashimoto"s disease)the body attack one or some specific organ/s or gland/s.So in Hashimotos disease the process of autodestruction is against the thyroid gland and the enlarged lymph nodes are not the result of the autoimune proces.It can be the result of an infection in the local area,this are reactive lymph nodes and disappear with the infection. If it is not a reactive lymph nod,e the Ct result or maybe a biopsy can determine the natyre of this lymph node.If your doctor said that the in the Ct the Node looked benign ,i dont see any reason to be worred.If you have any further question i will be happy to help.Wish you good health.
