I have had a goiter for years but blood levels are normal. Past few months right arm has had oblong sore lump on area above elbow. Mentioned to doctor who wasnt concerned. I now have another one right next to it. Can the goiter be related to sore lumps? (Have bouts of fatigue and sore joints. Also years of swollen syliva gland on same side as goiter and arm.)
Hello and welcome to HCM, The goitre may not cause abnormality of thyroid hormones. The thyroid hormones may remain within normal limits even in the presence of enlarged thyroid (goitre). The lumps on the arms do not seem to be associated with goitre. You can get aspiration cytology of these lumps to know the origin and character of the lesions. In this investigations the cells from the lesion are aspirated with a needle, spread on slide and stained with appropriate stains. The cells are then examined microscopically to know their origin and character. Swollen salivary glands can be due to infection, inflammation or neoplastic growth. You can get the aspiration cytology of the swollen salivary glands as described above.
