Can The Medicine Lavera XR Affect Progesterone Levels?
my wife is taking lavera XR 1000 TWICE A DAY. TWO MONTHS AGO HER PREGNANCY TEST WAS FOUND TO BE POSITIVE . BUT DUE TO LOW LEVEL OF PROGESTRONE THERE WAS A CASE OF MISSED ABORTION. I AM WORRIED WHETHER THE LOW LEVEL OF PROGESTRONE IS DUE TO THIS MEDICINE. WE HAVE A BABY GIRL AND SHE IS THREE YEARS OLD.

Hello, Welcome to HCM Thanks for posting your query in HCM. Lavera XR contains the active ingredient Levetiracetam in a time released formulation.It is an anticonvulsant, prescribed for partial seizures. It works by reducing the activity in the brain.
It belongs to category C group of drugs. Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
So,it should used with great caution in pateints who are pregnant and planning to become pregnant.I would advice you to consult your treating doctor and switch it over to phenobarbitone if possible if you are planning for pregnancy.
