Can Thyroid Disorder Cause Seizure, Depression And Fatigue?
My girlfriend has been super shaky and had a pulse rate of 130 at rest. Is this too high. She has had two seizures in 2 weeks and has been diagnosed with epilepsy. They also found that she has nodules on her thyroid. It s been a mess lately she s only 30 years old and all of a sudden this has been happening. The dr has her in topamax and thyrex for her thyroid to see if the nodules will go away on her thyroid. Good a bad thyroid be causing these seizures. Her appetite is horrible she can t sleep well wakes up frequently also depression energy and mood issues. Please any answers will help
Thyroid disorders might contribute in development of seizures as it might reduce the threshold for seizures. It is important that she does the proper investigations to note the levels of the thyroid in her blood with the following tests: TSH and FT4 and treated properly. Probably and iodine uptake test would be helpful in her case as well. Generally it is high thyroid hormone that causes high pulse and increased risk for seizures so having the thyrex (levothyroxine) which is thyroid hormone, i am not sure if it will add to the problem- she needs proper examinations as mentioned above to make sure of this.
Thyroid problems can affect sleep, mood, energy and may increase the chance for depression as well so a good evaluation of the thyroid function and proper treatment might help with these as well.
