Can Too Much Wax Cause Blockage In My Ear?

Good morning, is it possible that too much wax can cause a blockage in my ear? My right ear has that feeling of discomfort (the same as when one flies) - there s no pain, just discomfort and I cannot hear properly. Please help as I am a teacher and need to be able to hear my students speaking. I know that there s always a lot of wax in my ears and I never really manage to clean it out properly - I don t think there s an infection, probably a good clean by a doctor would help? Thank you so much for your advice!!!

Hello,

To answer your question, yes, wax can block the ears. But self cleaning with buds can cause more harm than good as it is done blindly and can injure delicate parts of the ears including the external auditory canal and its skin. This causes a vicious cycle of furhter wax accumulation and impacted wax. You should visit an ENT who could visualise it there is excess wax and remove it under supervision.
