Can Trichomoniasis Infection Be Transmitted Without Sexual Encounter?

My fiancee went to the doctor for an ob gyn examine and they said she contracted an STI known as Trick. I am 52 years old and she is 45. We both have not had sex with no one else. She had a follow up today and believes I may have cheated, but I have not done anything. I am really confused

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted disease and sexual intercourse is the only way of transmission so one of you may have sent it to the other. Also, a very low possibility is that it may have been acquired by using a dirty, contaminated towel to wipe the intimate parts.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
