Can Ultrasound Give The Exact Conception Date?

Last year when I went in for my ultrasound I was told I was 6 1/2 weeks pregnant. The conception date I was given was April 24. My question is how far off can an the ultrasound be and is it true that the ultrasound adds two weeks. Is it possible for me to have gotten pregnant on May 9 with the ultrasound saying April 24? My lmc was about Apr 6, but was irregular.

By convention, the way we refer to pregnancy is based on the number of weeks since your last missed period (since not everyone knows the days of conception). It is assumed by the ultrasound calculation that conception takes place 2 weeks before a missed period. However not everyone has their period exactly 14 days after they ovulate, and the egg and sperm can live up to 72 hours in your reproductive tract, so the conception date may not be exact based on an ultrasound- it is an estimate.
