I have suffered with sinus problems for around forty tyears and have 4 major operations and a few minor ones from the age of 24. I can breath perfectly well now but am prone to sinus infections. I use a neti pot when necessary and find sudafed helps. Recently I have been wearing earplugs at night because of my husbands snoring. I have a sinus infection at the moment and cannot get rid of it ...my face is swollen for most of the morning and keeps flaring up and I was wondering if wearing the earplugs were contributing to my problem. I do allergies and suffer from excema occasionally.
Ear plugs may not directly cause any sinus infection. But you may be sensitive to the material used in the plugs and this may cause the swelling and symptoms you described. In any case try using just another plug or alternate plugs and see if this helps. If it does not help you must consult an ENT who can advice you on a probable course of antihistamine
