Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Withdrawal From Ambien Cause Shortness Of Breath And Pressured Chest?
I have been taking 2.5 - 3.0 mg of ambien nightly for several years with very few breaks. About 2+ weeks ago I decided to stop. Coincidently I began to ache, was short of breath and very tired. I thought I had some kind of flu. Pain increased for 5 days culminating in severe (8-9) chest and back pain that woke me at 5 AM, lasting for about 10 minutes. They found nothing wrong at the ER but I just had a follow-up stress test that showed SVT. I will follow up next week with a cardiologist. I continue to be short of breath and have pressure in my chest. Do you suspect ambien withdrawal?
You have been taking Ambien for several years. You have stopped taking the medicine and presently are suffering from shortness of breath, have chest and back pain. Your stress tests show SVT. You are experiencing the withdrawal symptoms of Ambien.
Chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, dizziness, troubled bleeding, feeling short of breath, feeling like you might pass out are withdrawal symptoms. However, since your stress test has shown SVT, it is a cause of concern as it may be indicative of serious developing cardiac problems like Sinus tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, Multifocal atrial tachycardia (MAT), etc.
You are suggested to get clinically examined by a cardiologist to detect any developing CAD, coronary artery disease. Get all required blood tests and imaging tests done so that detailed study can be done. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected and severity of the symptoms. Stay away from addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
