Can Withdrawal From Smoking Cause Sinus Problem And Coughing?
Hello, I quit smoking about 6 days ago. I'm doing well and holding my own; however, I have gradually been becoming sicker and sicker. My sinuses are running like faucets, my ears are aching and throat is irritated all the way down through my rib cage. I've developed a cough, the like of which I have never heard. Is this normal? Will it pass on it's own?
Hello Congratulations on your quitting smoking. Well, there are definitely some withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking that you experience for a few days. Cough and irritation in throat could be a part of withdrawal and you can ease it by using frequent Lozenges and warm saline saline rinses. Also try and sip warm water and green tea throughout the day. You can also try Honey in warm water that shall ease the throat. Sinus running may not be a part of Withdrawal, could be just a coincidence of developing mild viral simultaneously. Do not worry, take steam and if I would have seen you in my practice I would advice Tab Paracetamol, 500 mg twice daily for about 2-3 days. If symptoms do not subside in 2-3 days then show a general physician. Meanwhile continue with your determination to quit smoking. You are on your way to good health and life.
