Cause For Shocking Pain In The Head?

I have had a shocking, stabbing pain on the right side of my head going on two weeks. The pain got really bad this weekend and i went to the ER. They gave me vicodin and elvail. The pain has gotten better but i am still having these shocking pains and its just on the right side. I have an appointment to see an ent, a neuro doc and my eye doc. I also had a ct scan that was normal. Any advice or ideas on what could be causing this?

The pain sounds as though it may be neuralgia. This is nerve related pain that may be caused by abnormal structure or function of the nerves.

One of the most common causes of pain in the face is trigeminal neuralgia.This is intense pain in the face related to the trigeminal nerve.

There are medications available that can help reduce the pain.Examples are tegretol, gabapentin, lyrica, zoloft, paxil, amitriptyline. Though these medications are antidepressants and some are antiepileptics they have are also used for this type of pain.

After an initial episode the disease may stop for months or years then recur at different points.
