Cause Of Pain And Swelling In The Ears Which Started In One Side Of The Head And Proceeded To The Other Side?

I m having some ear symotoms. Dec. 31, 2013, I woke to find me entire left side of my head wet with sweat. I also noticed a lump in theI ter ear. My husband said the lump was flesh colored. Later he noticed, after I put hot compresses on my left side of my head, the lump changed to a yellowish puss colored lump about the size of a pencil erasertip. I was placed on antibiotics for a week. The lump broke a couple days into the antibiotics. I was having headache-like pain around and above the left ear, and I noticed some swelling behind my left ear. I was placed on antibiotic ear drops for the next week. After the ear drops were completed in my left ear, I woke up with my right ear blocked and tge same headache-like pressure around the right ear. I saw an ent dr who had a ct scan of both ears, which showed nothinh unusual. The right ear has cleared, but I m still experiencing left ear discomfort in and around the ear, and sometime slight discomfort, at times in and around my right ear. Any ideas, I ve about given up. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to HCM. You don't need to be so much tense about your problem. It happens often with a no. of patients. You probably had furuncle or simply known as boil in your left ear. I think you are in habit of regularly scratching your ears due to which the infection developed in the other ear also. You need to go to an ent specialist regularly for few days. He will place an antibiotic wick in your ear along with oral medications. This infection will go definitely. may be you have some impacted cerumen also in your ear. he will clear that also for you. Also you need to get your blood sugar levels checked. Otherwise you can come to my clinic also. We willtry to relieve you of your suffering at the earliest.
