Chances Of Survival From Surgery For Small Bowel Obstructions At The Age Of 95
my mother is 95 yrs and admitted to hospital from abdominal pains later diagnose with small bowel obstructions the attending doctor refuses to do surgery due to her age and what he feels will die on surgery table after scheduing the surgery on two separate occassions my mother is dying as a result and impatient siblings have put her on level 2 ready for hospice I am also her daughter and believe she can withstand the surgery and desire aggressive care to save her life what are my options
If this is complete bowels obstruction without surgery her chances to survive are zero. So surgery is her only option lo survive. It is not a good idea to leave human dying because of bowels obstruction. She shoul have ileostomy done. This procedure can be even done in local anesthesia which is not as risky as regular sedation.
Hope this will help. Regards
