Normal To Have Painful Bowel Movements After Abdominal Hysterectomy?
Hi Dr. Grief, I am nine days post op from a total abdominal hysterectomy. I was able to have a bowel movement on days six after surgery. However the last few bowel movements have been rather painful as they are passing through my body. Is this normal?
* Likely to be constipation in relation with bed rest, immobility or as part of side effect of possible analgesics as morphine, tramadol or related to diet aspects.
* It is recommended to
- consume plenty of liquids
- high fibre diet
- mobilisation as much as possible after contact with the surgeon
- bulk-forming laxative preparations.
