Chest CT Shows Atelectasis, Inferior Lingual. Have Discoloration Of Right Breast. Related To Breast Cancer?
I just got a CT of my chest and it says "atelectasis in the right middle lobe medially and inferior lingual" and I also have a discoloration on my right breast, which seems like it would be directly above the middle of my right lung. Could this be at all associated with a breast cancer? It runs in my family, and I've noticed this discoloration extending out from my areola in a star pattern. I have an appointment with an Ob/Gyn in a few weeks, but wonder if I should try to catch a cancellation for sooner?
Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM
Atelectasis of lungs may be due to various reasons. Obstruction of air passage leads to distal collapse and this leads to atelectasis.Obstruction may be due to variety of reasons, it may be due to infective etiology, tumours etc.
It seems that skin discolouration is not due to carcinoma breast. Before establishing it, confirmation of breast cancer is done clinically, imaging etc.Mammography with ultrasound diagnoses the tumour.Of course, skin involvement occurs in breast cancer.
So, you need proper examination before coming to any conclusion.
Sorry to hear about your problem. Although this does not seem to be an indicator of breast cancer, it is advisable that you get a mammorgaphy done to rule out a small cancer which is not visible on clinical examination.
Hoping for the best.
