Chest Cramps On Right Side, Extreme Pain, Difficulty Breathing. Cure?
I am 42, Male and recently have had upper chest cramps on the right side. They are extremely painfull and durring the episode I can barely breath. I just had three episodes this morning. Is this just a cramp or something I should worry about. Mind you I am a former NFL r who has a high pain tolerance . and this is a high ten on a chart
Hello. I'm Dr. Christensen.
I'm sorry you're uncomfortable. While your chest cramps could be due to a benign but painful condition like viral pleuritis (also known as pleurisy), these symptoms could also be caused by something more serious such as pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lung), a lung tumor, or a spontaneous pneumothorax (a partially collapsed lung).
I'd suggest you see your doctor or go to an urgent care center as soon as possible. Once the serious problems are ruled out, an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication should take the edge off your pain until the condition clears. However, a large pulmonary embolism can be fatal, so it's important to make sure you're not dealing with a serious condition before you try treating this on your own.
I hope that helps, and I hope things go well!
