Chest Tightness, Racing Heart. Cleaned Dust, History Of Crohn's. Anxiety ?
Hi I m a 23 year old female, 5 7 160lbs. My only history is crohns Disease and asthma (exercise induced). Today I have been experiencing chest tightness and a feeling like my heart is racing, along with feeling like I cant take a good breath. I was cleaning out a dusty basement today.. Could this be the cause of my symptoms? Does it sound like anxiety? I just checked my apical heart rate & it s was 90 I m normally in the 70s.
See, as you are a patient of exercise induced asthma and you are feeling chest tightness, difficulty in breathing and palpitation on exposure to dust I think your asthma symptoms are exacerbated now. You need to step up your persisting asthma therapy and make yourself put on daily asthma therapy if not yet. You need to consult a pulmonologist, do a spirometry with bronchodialator reversibility testing to get the actual picture of your current asthma control. You also may maintain a peak-flow chart to monitor your asthma thaerapy.
So dont waste your time. Consult your pulmonologist immediately.
Hi
Thanks for letting us know your medical history in brief. The symptoms are not due to crohns disease.
The symptoms of chest tightness, shortness of breath are due to bronchial spasm due to the dust, which is allergy induced asthma. The feeling of heart pacing more than asthma is because you are panicked about your inability to breath . Heart rate of 90/min is nothing to worry about.
Relax!!!
Suggestions:
1. Avoid further contact with allergen which is dust in your case. ( dust and pollens are the most common allergens)
2. Since you are a known asthmatic you might be having some aerosol spray with you. Otherwise take a bronchodilator spray like salbutamol metered dose inhaler( MDI).
example:Asthalin MDI : 2puffs thrice daily for 5 days and gradually taper the frequency then stop)
3. In case a plain bronchodilator spray does not help you may need a steroid spray like budesonide example: Budecort MDI 200mcg: 2 puffs twice daily for 5 days then once daily for 3 days then stop.
4. Oral medications like doxofylline and montelukast are prescribed after consultation if breathlessness persists.
Thanks.
Hi..Bkay.., the above symptoms are leastly related to crohns disease...
this is due to anxiety.. the normal range of heat rate is 60 to 90 per min..
nothing to worry...
do not worry...
Take care..
