Chest Tightness, Tingling In The Arms And Legs, Lightheadedness. On Blood Pressure Medication. Family History Of Stroke And Diabetes

Every time I eat extremely fatty foods (e.g., fried chicken) it seems like I can feel the cholesterol oozing into my body. Lately, however, I've had episodes where I thought I was having some kind of coronary bc my chest would tighten, my throat would close, my arms and legs would start tingling, I'd have a pit in my stomach, and I'd feel extremely lightheaded. I am 38, fit (minimum 30 mins of cardio and 20 mins of weights or calisthenics 6x per week), eat ok, smoke rarely, and have 2-3 cocktails per night. I was recently put on blood pressure medication (low dosage ACE inhibitor, forget the name) and have pretty bad allergies, and there's a family history of diabetes and stroke.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Your symptoms are involving different parts of body which are difficult to explain by one medical problem. Your symptoms may be related to anxiety. Daily use of cocktail also increases of chances of developing anxiety.

Anxiety disorders can manifest with not only psychological symptoms but with a variety of physical symptoms also like: Tingling, numbness, hot and cold sensations, palpitation, chest heaviness, choking sensation, tremors (shakiness) etc.

It is also better get yourself evaluated by general physician to rule out any medical condition. Same time get evaluated by psychiatrist and start treatment accordingly.

For long term control of anxiety following measures are helpful: relaxation exercise, medicines like SSRIs and non drug treatment like CBT.

Same time do some relaxation exercise like daily brisk walk, yoga and breathing exercise, which will help you in recovery.

Wish you good health and all the best.

Regards,
