Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son 6.5 yrs old and stuttering since 3 years. Sometimes he is fluent for several days and sometimes he stammers. He goes to school and there is no problem with him as there is no complaint. Doctors says that he will overcome this problem. I need a second advise to proceed further.
It is common to see stammering in children and as you mention that the child is sometimes fluent also plus he is doing good at school the problem is much less. Your doctor has rightly said that it will resolve on its own and there is nothing to worry . I woul like you to consult a speech therapist for regular speech sessions and modulation techniqes . Children having such problems require emotional support to overcome these issues by their parents and siblings . Long speeches and paragraph reading are recommended. Encouragement and appteciation at every small step is required.
Thank you . If you have any query feel free to ask. Dr Shruti
If the stammering is occasional try and observe if there is any stress factor which could be responsible for this.
Please look into his relationship with parents, friends or teacher. It could be because of some bullying at the school or a teacher who is very harsh to him.
Continue to ask further queries. Hope this helps. Take care.
