Child. Pain And Bleeding Due To Damaging Tympanic Membrane While Cleaning Ears. Any Possible Complications?
hi I was removing wax from my 2 year old son's ears and he was struggling with me so I think I caused a tympanic membrane perforation because he started bleeding afterwards which lasted for < 30mins associated with pain. what do I do and how long will the pain last and when will the membrane heal? any complications of hearing loss?
I understand your concern regarding your childs hearing. It is possible that you could have caused injury to the ear canal or eardrum. The only way to differentiate would be to get a physical exam by a Specialist. For the ear pain you could give a pain killer syrup like Ibugesic. Keep the ears dry, as most holes of the eardrum heal spontaneously in 3-4 weeks. Water entry may result in a middle ear infection and prevent the hole from healing. Do not meddle with the childs ears and don't use earbuds. Hope the above information helps.
