Child. Recurring Lumpy Bruise On Abdomen On Same Spot. No History Of Fall Or Injury, No Pain. Suggest

My five year old has a recurring lumpy bruise on his lower right abdominal, right above his hip. This has been going on since this summer. His teacher and bus driver have never seen him bump into anything, and he swears that he never runs into anything. He says it never hurts. It is quite a large and dark bruise when it appears. It's always in the same spot. Sometimes when it appears it is lighter and not so hard.

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Recurrent lumpy bruising in one fixed area may be because of presence of blood vessel malformations like hemangioma which will present as tuft of vessels in one area.

But physical examination is important to know the type of skin lesion.

If it is due to hemangioma, the recurrent bleeding leading to bruising may be controlled by excision of the blood vessel tuft or giving intralesional steroid injections.

I advise you to consult pediatrician for physical examination and to diagnose the condition.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
