Child Advised DIOS-DF For Loosemotions, Stomach Pain. Advised Mefinamic Acid And Paracetamol For Fever. What Can Be Done?
Hello Doctor, My Son is 3 years 9 months old. He has been advised DIOS-DF suspension for loosemotions. He is complaining of slight stomach pain . Is the medicine appropriate. The doc has also advised mefanimic acid and paracetamol suspension for fever . But he is not having fever. So I have not given him the mefanimic acid & Paracetamol dosage. Please answer my query. Thanks
There has to be some form of documentation of a bacterial AND amoebic infection to justify the use of the above combination. If no tests were asked or done, then this medicine is not indicated, and you might be better off asking for a second opinion or getting a stool test done to see what is wrong with your son.
May I suggest also not to mix paracetamol and mefenamic acid prescriptions in a single illness. Just continue with paracetamol on an as-needed basis for fever. Otherwise there is no need to use either of the medicines to "prevent" fever.
