Child Born Premature. Was In Nicu, Regular Rop Session Done. Eye Is Squinting. Treatment? Surgery Possible?
My son was born premature at 26 weeks of gestation. He was in the Nicu for 3 mnths. now hes a healthy one year old boy. We had regular rop sessions done for him . now i notice his right eye is squinting . I would like to know regarding the treatment procedure for the same and also please help me in knowing whether it is possible to get a surgery done in preterm infants if needed.
If the ophthalmologist has been doing a regular check-up for ROP then he would certainly noted the squint. I suggest that you get his eyes checked up. By shielding the normal eye the muscles of the eye that is squinting can be exercised and the squint may become less. If there is refractive error then that also needs to be corrected before surgery is contemplated.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
