Child Compaining Of Right Arm Pain While Writing. Cause?
My son is 9 and is complaining of pain in his lower right arm when he writes. Last year his teacher and I thought he just didn t like writing but this year, expected to write more in his class as a year older, he is complaining of it more. His teacher got impatient with him last week when he complained in class. I think I should take him to the Dr but not sure what it could be? Tonight he only wrote 10 words and he was in tears .

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. well......your complains are quite limited which are indicative of "writer's cramp". would like to have li'l more history about you. whether you get pain only during writing or some other work too. If your problem is confined to writing only thn we can be sure about "task specific dystonia" Writer's cramp is a type of focal dystonia that is specific to the task. Dystonia is an involuntary, sustained muscle contraction. Focal dystonia affects only one body part. Writer's cramp is the most common dystonia of the repetitive movement disorders. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
