Child Diagnosed Positive For Dengue. Does Taxim Help In This Case?
Good morning Doctor! My brother s baby is diagnosed positive for dengue . She showed fever and rashes on her body. Her platelet counts reduced from 150,000 to 120,000 in 2 days. We admitted her to a hospital they are administering her Taxim. She is now recovering. As far as my knowledge is concerned there is no treatment available for Dengue. Can you please briefly tell me how does Taxim help in this case? I greatly appreciate your help. Thank you.
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Taxim is cefotaxim and is a most potent antibiotics . The child may have any secondary infection or septicaemia or any other lower respiratory infection for which doctors are using taxim. In itself taxim don't play any role for elevation of platelets . Good luck. Dr. HET
hello dear thanks for your query at HCM your correct about what you know about dengue dengue is caused by virus. there is no specific treatment available for the treatment. main management in dengue is tight fluid management and platelet count maintanence. taxim is antibiotic given in bacterial infection. no use in dengue. in severe infection like dengue child immunity is low , so doctor might have added to prevent super added bacterial infection that might worsen child health. hope this will clarify your doubts regards
