Child Feel Nauseated Due To Poor Ventilation, Bright Sunlight, Stomach Pain, Dehydration. Are They Related?
Hi Dr Christensen, While traveling in his school bus, my son 8 years old, complains that the poor ventilation and bright sunlight cause him to get nauseated - sometimes he s begun vomiting . 2 times in the last year, he has developed stomach pain and has been dehydrated. Are these 2 separate problems? i.e. his stomach pain is an infection and his vomiting is because of motion sickness ? or can these be related? Thanks for any insight
Well motion sickness is associated with nausea vomiting and vague abdominal discomfort that kids generally interpret as abdominal pain followed by malaise and headache .Excessive stimulation of vestibular system by motion is the primary cause.Few factors may increase the risk of developing motion sickness
Poor ventilation
Migraines
Emotional factors like fear,anxiety
For this u have to inform the bus driver to keep vehicle well ventilated and ask your son to sit in front and avoid bright sunlight exposed places in bus also to take small quantity of liquids and food at regular interval, avoid large meals .
