Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Child Had Fall. Now Irritable, Fever. Due To Head Injury?
My 20 month old son fell over the weekend from our second door step and hit his forehead on the cemete. Itook him to the hospital and he checked out fine. Overthe past few days he has been kinda irritable and started running a fever of 102 during the night last night but shows no signs of being sick. Could the fever be from hitting his head?
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Fever with irritability is mostly infective in nature and is not related to fall .
I suggest you to get him evaluated by pediatrician as meningitis needs to be ruled out.
In the meantime give acetaminophen every 6 hourly as per dosage till fever is above 100F.
Do tepid sponging if fever is above 100F.
Give plenty of fluids so as to maintain hydration.
Hi,
Your 20 mths old son fell and hit his head on the cement surface. Was he unconscious immediately after the injury ?. The dr examined him and said every thing was fine. But how many days back?
Now your son is irritable and running temp., otherwise normal. OK.
Even though nothing is expected do CT scan Brain. If nothing wrong is there leave your worry. consult your pediatrician for fever and irritability.
Best wishes
